2015 A to Z Challenge: C is for Clothesline

There's a new post every day this month for the A to Z Challenge.  Today's letter is C for Clothesline.
I had wanted a clothesline for a long time.  It's not that I planned to haul ALL my laundry outside to line dry, but sometimes you just need to hang a few things up to dry.   I was thinking that we would go down to Ace Hardware and buy a clothesline that we would hang on the fence and attach the other end to the house.  It would be an easy afternoon project.

"No," the spouse says "I'll build you one."

Since the spouse retired last year he's always looking for projects that allow him to use dangerous equipment.  He bought pipe at the scrap yard, hauled out his welder and went to work.  For several days he cut steel and welded pipe together to make the supports.

I now have a clothesline and this morning I hung sheets out to dry.  It was a breezy spring day with blue sky and sunshine.  The bed in our RV is now  made up with sun-dried sheets.

One of life's simple pleasures is a cozy bed with the scent of the spring breeze lingering on the sheets.  Life is good!

  1. How nice of your husband to build something that would please you. I am remembering the smell of sheets being dried outside in the spring air.

  2. Ahh, your post brings back many memories. We live in a community which doesn’t allow clothes lines. It’s funny, I’m sure that most of the seniors who live here hung their laundry on a clothes line at one time. I’m not ready to give up the convenience of my dryer, but every once in a while, on a breezy spring day, it would be nice to be able to hang sheets out to dry.

  3. I also remember the feeling of sheets dried on the line. It's a different feeling, isn't it? :-)

  4. Yea for clotheslines. Mine is an octopus thingy, shut like an umbrella for winter. I can see yours in my mind's eye, just like the clothesline from my childhood. My brothers used to do chin ups on the end out in the yard.

  5. Clotheslines are great for blankets and sheets. They always bundle up in the dryer. :)

  6. I love the scent of lined dried clothes. It's too bad the season for that is too short where I live in upstate New York. But if your spouse needs some more projects using dangerous implements, I could use a nice welded plant hanger (or two).

    1. Alana, I had to laugh at your comment. The spouse just attended a workshop to learn blacksmithing and is in the process of building a forge. One thing he built at his course was an iron plant hanger. It's actually quite decorative!

  7. That's so nice! Our neighborhood Association has a rule that you can't keep clotheslines up permanently. One that you string up when you're using it is ok, but it can't just be there. Isn't that silly? I think we'll probably put one in eventually...
    Happy A-Z'ing!
