WTF: Along the Highways

WTF Wednesday is a semi-regular feature of this blog. It documents the things that have made me pause, slap my forehead and say "What the f**k!" Well, that and I just like saying WTF. I'm retired. I don't have to watch what I say anymore. I'm not any one's role model.

Several years ago I began noticing bottles along the side of the highway.  I remember thinking that people were drinking a lot of Mountain Dew...you know, that yellow colored beverage.  Later, after seeing many more bottles with liquid of varying colors from sunshine yellow to amber tinted brown, I realized the roadside was littered with bottles of urine.  That's when I thought "What the f^*k!"

This morning I drove I-82 north to Tri-Cities and noticed many bottles along the side of the highway.  Soon our weather will change and snow will cover the containers.  Little hills of human waste will lie in wait for unsuspecting roadside wanderers.

I snapped this photo by the side of the on-ramp on I-84. The liquid was of the pale yellow variety.

This is a disgusting practice.  What the f**k are these drivers thinking?  I can understand peeing in a bottle in an emergency, but why not dispose of it appropriately.  Or, here's a hint, plan ahead and stop at a rest area!

  1. The thing is, you know these are GUYS doing this. You know most guys have a wife or mother to clean up after them. Maybe this is what they are expecting to happen. Sheesh!

  2. I can't believe they're tossing the bottles out of the car. Well, maybe I can, now that I think about it. I have six sons. I'll bet at least some of them are guilty.

  3. On behalf of my species, I apologize! I've never resorted to the practice, and it is equally abhorrent to my good sense as to yours, and I intend to never sink to that level of depravity, but...I completely understand the mentality. Urine is simply fortified water, it disappears quickly when placed on the ground, and we have people who pick up garbage for a living, right? Besides, it's better than standing beside my truck going au naturel, right? I mean, you don't want to see the "Mountain Dew" being produced, right?

Stop at a rest area? Give me a break! My metabolism is not in sync with the spacing of rest areas. When you gotta go, you gotta go! Plus, I'm more important than any other person I meet, my time is money, my comfort is paramount, and Convenience is my god.

(These comments are for Jann's sake only! Don't flame me! I'll say anything to get a rise out of Jann!)

  4. Well, I have to agree...WTF???? That is disgusting. Why don't they just pull over to the side of the road and check the tires as my dad used to do?

  5. Each year we drive our yearly trek from Washington State to Arizona where we spend our winter. Yes, the highways are littered with "apple juice" containers! Makes me so sad because there are so many rest areas everywhere. And miles of nowhere where some of these individuals can pull over and pee unnoticeably on their tires!

  6. Seeing urine filled bottles along the highways is on of my biggest pet peeves....it is so gross!! Definitely a man thing cause god knows we couldnt hit the opening of one of those bottles!!! I have a small bladder and drive alot...delivering mail and running kids around, and yes I get out and "check the tires" quite often!!! Glad I live in the country cause I know all the hidden spots! Thanks for the WTF Wednesdays Jann, gives me a good laugh!
