WTF Wednesday: Mike's Market
WTF Wednesday is a semi-regular feature of this blog. It documents the things that have made me pause, slap my forehead and say, "What the f**k!" Well, that and I just like saying WTF. I'm retired. I don't have to watch what I say anymore. I'm not any one's role model.
They know me at Mike's Market. I'm a regular. Every day, rain or shine, I get my fix of Diet Coke for just a dollar. At the beginning of the school year when I was working, I was there early in the morning. Now that I'm on a more relaxed schedule, I roll in sometime after 10:00. I fill my giant Big Gulp mug with ice and Diet Coke, and if the lottery is over a hundred million, I might spring for one ticket. The Diet Coke will last me all day. It's 9:00 p.m. as I write this and I'm still sipping on the one I bought this morning. Those Big Gulp mugs are well insulated.
This morning I was filling my mug when the clerk asked me, "Are you working today?"
"No," I responded. "Why?"
"Well," she said. "You're all dressed up."
"I'm wearing sweat pants and a fleece pullover."
"Yeah," she says "but you match."
WTF??? Maybe it's time for me to upgrade my retirement wardrobe.

I'm trying to figure out how sweat pants match with anything unless you are talking about those fancy sweat pants that you are not supposed to sweat in.
ReplyDeleteSome you just have to laugh and 'carry on'!
ReplyDeleteYou match! hahahahahahah!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou should come over and read my latest post, 'Kick it up a notch.' This retirement thing is making us a bit lazy, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteDear Jann, I so enjoyed this posting because it simply shows us that we are seldom privy to what other's conclude and think. How their minds work. Why, I'm not even sure why I come to the conclusions I do! Peace.
ReplyDeleteUp and out by 10 am. You are my hero. I am in slow motion till noon.
ReplyDeleteYou should have told him you were on the way to a job interview.
That is so scary; matching sweats at the ball.
ReplyDeleteGotta tell ya... that Diet Coke would KILL me. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteI get my hit of caffeine through espresso and coffee, but I know there's a lot of it in Diet Coke. If I were still drinking it at 9:00pm, I'd be unable to sleep. I guess you either build up a tolerance or you don't have a caffeine problem. But the wardrobe? Definitely you were dressed up if you matched! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou match? I never match! See, she was right in giving you a compliment.
ReplyDeleteThis was so much fun to read! That coming from a person who doesn't need caffeine, usually, and almost always matches. Sorry. I can't help it.
ReplyDeleteHi Nana .. fun post .. and clothes - yes, I have to re-evaluate ..
ReplyDeleteI was wondering .. are you going to be doing the A-Z 2014 .. I see you survived 2013 .. could you let me know - many thanks .. and if so put the badge up ... many thanks .. cheers Hilary
My almost-daily fix and addiction is a (bottled) Starbucks Frappacino. My cup filled with ice, it also lasts me hours…Who needs to match? It is time to be daring and mismatch!
ReplyDeleteLOL. But doesn't the Diet Coke go flat by about 5 p.m.?
ReplyDeleteHa, ha! Love it! I can't wait til I don't care if I match! I'm like DJan though. I wouldn't be able to sleep til tomorrow if I had caffeine that late.
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I am dropping by from the A to Z list. I am a retired, granny in my 60's as well. Can't wait to see what your A to Z is all about
