Gratitude

This month I have been one of many Facebook users who have been writing a daily post about what we are thankful for.   I've found that the more I focus on the blessings that I have received, the happier I feel about life in general.  As the season turns to long cold and dark days, it would be easy to wallow in gloom and doom...and if Democrats had lost the election, I might really be in mourning!  But I have much to be thankful for.  While I have given a gratitude shout out to some material things (hot tub, chocolate, and diet coke to name a few), it is the people in my  life that are most important to me.  Even though I am somewhat reclusive, family and friends are what kept coming to the forefront as I made my daily post.  All in all I realize how fortunate I am to live in the United States and not want for basic necessities.

Tomorrow the spouse and I are flying to Texas for Thanksgiving.  We spend every Thanksgiving with our grandchildren.   I hope you get to spend time with family and friends this Thanksgiving.  Have a wonderful holiday.

  1. Me, too - gratitude for all that.

We fly to Kenai, Alaska tomorrow to spend the holiday with my sister and her husband. I can't think of any place I'd rather be.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. The only place I will be flying is into bed about 9 pm after feeding and entertaining 14 people.

  4. You are so right -- your frame of mind really does affect how you feel. And it is so easy to fall into the habit of criticizing and finding fault and never being satisfied. So I resolve to be more thankful, and count my blessings, not just for the next few days but for now and forevermore. (At least I'm gonna try!) P. S. I voted for Obama, too, perhaps with less enthusiasm than you -- but I've got my fingers crossed!

  6. Happy Thanksgiving! I feel a bit wistful thinking of all my family so far away and wishing I could be there celebrating so much to be thankful for -- especially the election outcome! I'll be thinking about you all though and wishing you all a wonderful day and year to come.

  7. Well, I'm already here in Texas, visiting family for Thanksgiving. I hope your travels are easy and you don't get the pat-down I got at SeaTac! :-)

  9. My sister has been doing the Facebook "thankful" thing. It helps to remind me of all I have to be thankful for too.
My grandchildren flew away to Colorado to be with their other grandparents, but I will still have some adult family here for turkey dinner on Thursday. Preparations are now under way.
    Happy travels.

  11. Dear Jann, thank you for your Thanksgiving greeting and may your days continue to be filled with gratitude. One thing I'm grateful for is meeting you through my reading of your fellow bloggers with whom you vacationed this year. Peace.
