Robbery Update

Two weeks ago we were robbed, and we are still dealing with the after effects.   The thief took more than expensive toys and equipment.  He also robbed us of peace of mind.  It was the spouse's stuff that was stolen, and he's the one who has had to deal with the police and the insurance company.  He's also the one who feels the most violated.  It was his shop that was ransacked.  He's the one who still reaches for something in his workshop, and then realizes that it is gone.  Everyday he discovers more items that are missing.

The spouse's pick-up was stolen in the robbery.  The police found it a few hours after it was reported missing.  It had been abandoned after it was driven over an embankment and into a tree.  All the windows were broken out and it was throughly crunched and trashed.  It's still at the body shop being repaired.

We've upgraded our security and bars have been installed on the shop windows.  There's not much we can do about the sense of violation.

A week ago the spouse was in a local pawn shop and saw one of his stolen backpacks hanging on a display rack.  The spouse was told that it was new merchandise, not pawned.  The local police helped him to recover it from the pawn shop owner.  She was not overly cooperative.  There was no record of how they had acquired it.  There was no question that the pack was our stolen item because it has several unique features.  Apparently this was not the first time that this shop was found with stolen goods.

This morning the city police called to have the spouse come down to view items they had recovered from a suspect.  The spouse came home with two bags full of some of his missing items.  He's still missing a lot of stuff, but he's feeling better knowing that at least there is progress being made and that someone is in jail.

Me?  I'm just glad that we're moving forward and putting this horrible experience behind us...and that bastard is sitting in the Umatilla County Jail!

  2. So glad one of them is in cuffs. Hope there were no more. My house was robbed, forty years ago. We gave the police an inventory, but there was the residual of things we didn't miss until we wanted them. I didn't miss the diamond watch my parents gave me for graduation until I went to gift it to my daughter at her graduation.

  4. That kind of crime is meanness pure and simple and I have little patience with such behavior. I hope they continue to fin more of your husband' stolen items. At least the police are working on the case and that's good.

  5. It's the sense of violation that is hardest to bear. I am so glad that some of his items have been recovered, and that the thief is behind bars. It takes a long time to recover from such an experience. Sending you happy thoughts...

  6. Maybe you two will finally get some closure when this guy is sent to jail.

  7. Thank God he's been caught, but I doubt he'll pay any restitution for all the cost and horror you've been put through. That pawn shop owner needs to be closed down and locked up, as an accessory. Folks like her are making crime pay! So sorry you've had to go through all this, and what a hero your hubby is to have tracked down his property AND stood his ground to get it back.

  8. I've been wondering how the aftermath of your robbery had been going. Happy to read there has been some resolution. Unfortunately, peace of mind after such a violation of your personal space does not come back quickly. I'm glad they found the guy.

  10. What a nightmare experience, but at least there is a bit of closure with the guy behind bars. Hopefully, he'll be there for a reasonable amount of time!

Also glad your husband is acquiring some of his possessions back. How frustrating about the back pack in the pawn shop. Sure makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I hope you will eventually feel a sense of peace. It can't be easy. Take care.

  11. I'm amazed that there's been as much success as this with the case; so often these things go entirely un-solved and unresolved. And the violence--the car, for instance--is so random. Why steal a car just to wreck it? Chin up to you both and my sympathies.

  13. So happy to hear they caught someone! And also its great news that your husband was able to recover at least a portion of his stuff back. Insurance or not it will help with the peace of mind as you move past this.

  14. that really does suck! Several years ago my house was totally ransacked and trashed. I never even got a sniff of any of my stuff after that. I don't even think the police tried...
I'm sorry that happened to you.

  15. I breathe a sigh of relief with you that someone was caught and that you're getting some of your stuff back. I hope a sense of peace finds its way to your home sooner rather than later.
